Where did He come From?

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
John 8:58

    Jesus Christ is eternal.  He has always been and will always be.  The verse above was His answer to the Jews who questioned Him when He stated that Abraham had rejoiced at the thought of His coming.  The Jews couldn't believe this, Jesus wasn't even 50 years old, yet he claimed to have seen a man that lived hundreds of years prior!  Jesus existed at the time of Abraham and before.  The Apostle Paul goes into more detail below:

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:  And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.  And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might
     have the preeminence.  For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
Colossians 1:15-19

    The subject of the above passage is Jesus Christ, established in the verse leading up to this passage.  Jesus is the "firstborn of every creature".  Jesus has been with God since the beginning.  We'll look at this verse again in the next section "Is Jesus God?".  Here are some other verses that state that Jesus is eternal.

What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
John 6:68

    Jesus states He was somewhere before He came to this earth.

    John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
John 1:15

    Again, this will be a passage we will look at in the next section "Is Jesus God?".  But this verse states that Jesus existed before John.

And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
John 17:5

    Jesus prays and asks for the glory that He had with God before the world was.  Again, showing Jesus with God from the beginning.
    There are many other verses that show Jesus as eternal, but in order to look at those with a better understanding, please go to section 2: "Is Jesus God?".
